The Rescorla Centre: how you can help

Our Campaign

Our aim is to convert the former Methodist chapel at Rescorla into a rural study centre for Cornwall and the Clay Country. Building on the inaugural 2008 Festival we intend to develop a series of cultural and educational initiatives relating to Cornish history, local literature and the performing arts. This will include an annual programme of workshops, concerts, short courses and weekend retreats. If you are interested in Cornish culture – come to Rescorla!

Currently Rescorla is sadly lacking in many facilities although the community spirit lives on. Every event that has been held since the chapel closed for worship has been enthusiastically supported. The message that comes across is 'we want a community hall'.

Friends of Rescorla will therefore use the chapel for community events and as a meeting place for local groups. And it won't stop there!

Friends of Rescorla will continue to meet in the chapel in order to develop and take forward other projects in and around the village. If the people are united with one voice we can achieve whatever we want for our community. Our own public hall will be an ideal place for everyone to get together to discuss any new ideas or projects.

If you have a suggestion for a how we could use the Chapel please contact us and let us know.

Funding

We are now embarking on a long term development plan that will hopefully see the restoration and conversion of the Chapel into the Rescorla Centre, the instatement of the annual Rescorla Festival and ultimately a wide range of other community uses and facilities. To fund this ambitious project we will primarily be looking to major public grant providers such as the Heritage Lottery Fund, Objective One and others. However, any funding will need to be met with some funds from other sources and money raised within the community. If you have any ideas for fund-raising, such as a sponsored or community event, please let us know.

You can also donate to the Rescorla Project directly, either by cheque made payable to ‘Friends of Rescorla’ sent to the address on the contact page or you can donate on-line now using the form below.

If you would like to set up a standing order to the Friends of Rescorla, or would like to discuss the Rescorla Project in more detail please do contact us.
